On Wednesday October 10, 2007 a small group of Cranbrook and Kingswood alumni gathered for a tour of
the home and studio of architects
Tod Williams and Billie Tsien here in New York City. Tod is not only a
Cranbrook alum himself (C '61) but is also the architect of the new indoor
swimming complex at Cranbrook, The Williams
Natatorium. This event was organized by Nick Holmes C' 91 and on
behalf of those who attended I want to thank him for creating this special
opportunity for us to visit the the working and living spaces of these two
talented architects. You can visit their website at
www.twbta.com.
The architectural studio located at 222 Central Park South occupies the
entire first floor of the building and has very tall ceilings- so tall in fact
that part of the studio has been transformed into a duplex. The
residential space is just two blocks away in spacious penthouse
overlooking Central Park. I took about 40 photos of the event and here
they are:

This glass conference table was designed by both Tod and Billie.
She designed the base and he contributed the glass top with embedded
metal elements.
