In January 1991 I made a road trip from Michigan to Ohio to photograph airplanes at US Air Force Museum at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio.
I used a 4 x 5 Speed Graphic in less than 10 degree weather to get this  shot of the propellers of a Douglas C-133A "Cargo Master."  Only 30 were made.  The production years were 1956-1961.  You can almost breathe that frigid Ohio air.
The turboprop C-133 was developed to fulfill requirements for a large capacity, strategic cargo aircraft.   The C-133 was released from active USAF inventory in 1971.  The C-133A shown here established a world record for propeller driven aircraft when on Dec. 16, 1958, it carried a cargo payload of 117,900 pounds to an altitude of 10,000 feet.  It was flown to the US Air Force Museum on March 17, 1971

Had to use the Speed Graphic to get this shot of a Junkers Ju 52 trimotor on historic Wright Field at the U.S. Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio.  (Wright Patterson Air Force Base)  My 35mm camera had stopped working in the cold.
The Ju 52's formed the nucleus of the Luftwaffe's infant bomber force in the mid-1930s and were later used for transporting supplies to attacking forces.  Ju 52 was used during the Spanish Civil War and flown by approximately 30 countries. This aircraft was donated to the U.S. Air Force Museum by the Spanish Government in 1971.
I used a booklet published by the Air Force Museum Foundation as a source for the facts regarding the aircraft.
