The "grünherz" was used by the
Germans as a sinister squadron emblem. I introduced the green heart
into a "southeast Asian" camouflage pattern to make this visual
"hybrid." Pumice was mixed in to the lighter green shade
to add texture to the painting. This was the first time I introduced
the heart as a motif in a painting and it led to many more "heart
paintings" including Art Around the Park '95, '96, '97.
Greek elements used in floor mosaics at Hadrian's Villa were the subject
matter for Art Around the Park '98. |
